Project Britannia is a joint project undertaken by U5 Lazarus and the
U6 Project to create a platform on which Ultima remakes will be
possible. We are using the popular Dungeon Siege engine, created by Gas Powered Games.
This is an incomplete listing of features currently in Project
Britannia. Most of these are feature-complete, or are at least to the
point where they can be tested and refined:
- Dynamic/Randomized Weather System
- Crafting System allowing you to craft new items out of different ingredients
- Navigable Ship system allowing you to sail the seas of Britannia
- Overhead map system allowing you to see exactly where you are in the world
- NPC Scheduling system. Townspeople have lives of their own and will go through their daily cycles.
- Full day/night cycle.
- Reagent based spellcasting system
- A variety of different potions from Heal to Protection
- Dynamic monster generators. Monsters will respawn based upon how long ago an area has been 'cleaned out'
- Fully open world - wander around in any direction and explore the world
- Dynamic alignment/faction system. Creatures align with different groups and have their own friends/enemies
- Moongate system allowing you to teleport across the land.
- Custom branching conversation system
- Custom skill system that can increase player abilities through training
We're taking volunteers to help us take Project Britannia to the first
MileStone release and beyond, so if you think you can help, contact us
through the forums.
This ambitious project started roughly a year ago when both projects
realized that they had something the other needed. The U6 Project had
some very sophisticated technical systems created, but was somewhat
short on art content. U5 Lazarus needed some technical help, and they
turned to U6. In return, U5 offered access to their world building
assets. The two teams each turned out independent demos, but quickly
learned that working together they could create much more and reduce
redundancies.
U5 Lazarus and the U6 Project are not merging, but they are each
contributing resources to Project Britannia which will become a
baseline for further developement. It is possible that other
Ultima remake projects might want to join us, since this platform could
be used for remaking any of the other Ultimas that use a similar
landmass or similar features.
If you're excited about seeing this project in action, come see us in the Project Britannia forum and let us know what you think.
